Uh, Helpful Hint: If you are part of a Military Unit and decide to “Train like You Fight” inside CONUS, carry your Military I.D. on you. You MIGHT not make the News that way.
He didn’t threaten anyone. He didn’t harm anyone. There isn’t a terrorist act there.
“who police said was a member of the military” and in the same damned paragraph “His current military status is under police investigation”??
Bullshit. They either know he is military or they don’t, it’s not under investigation.
So, stupid is illegal? Wow. When did this happen and have the DC police worked out a way to arrest both Congress and themselves?
Seriously, this was too easy to fix without headlines. He did not have a real gun. He should have thought better of the time of day. There is no need to arrest an unarmed man. Don’t run with an object that looks like a real gun near a school.
Why can’t you believe the National Guard is being used outside our borders? The rest of the Reserves are, and in fact, after Vietnam, Congress SPECIFICALLY reorged the military so it is impossible to conduct combat operations beyond raids without using the National Guard. Likewise, the USAF cannot even conduct PEACETIME operations without using the National Guard.
Oh, were you under the impression that the ARNG/ANG were state militias? Nope — they are PURELY federal forces who Washington agrees to allow state governors to use (and pay for) as state forces, unless DC has another use for them at that time. There’s even a Supreme Court ruling to that effect.
While preparing for a school at SWCS I spent a great deal of time rucked up, wearing boots and covering long distances pretty far from traditionally military friendly areas. However, I used a Camelbak with a civilian covering, wore civilian clothes and had no visible weapons. I was still stopped by the police on a fairly regular basis (seriously, every other week or so for close to a year). It pissed me off, but I got it… I looked out of place.
This guy gets an A for effort but an F for judgment.

I sure sleep safer in my bed at night knowing that rough men cash their welfare check and buy airsoft guns to parade around a school ground with.
