Changing demographics of gun shows

Yeah, I’ve noticed a lot of more minorities and women at ours. Of course, some of that may have to do with the new owners telling the guy who shows up with the Nazi stuff to calm down.

It’s not just there, it’s pretty much EVERYWHERE! 🙂 And I for one am glad to see it!!!

  2. adam Says:

Last month, there was a good 75/25 percentage of men to women. Most of the women, however, were clearly trying to “fit in”, wearing camo dresses and such.

  3. Skip Says:

Went in to PRK Arms today to scope a M&P45 and there were four chicks and one black guy in a nice suit filling out the forms.
    Good sign.

  4. Bubblehead Les Says:

Hey, as long as the Guy who sells the Venison Jerky doesn’t go away…..

  5. BobG Says:

When I took my CCW class I was happy to see that almost half the class was female, and there was a couple of young black guys, one of whiich was a history teacher.
Diversity is good when it comes to protecting our rights.

  6. mikee Says:

Venison jerky is nothing compared with the freshly made carmelized pecans at the Saxet Gun Shows here in Texas.

Question: Why is WWII memorabilia and Nazi stuff still so often available, while Vietnam era and more recent mideast conflict bring-homes relatively rare? Not that I really need a Helwan 9mm, or a Tokarev, for that matter, but they are more fun to look at than old Mauser bayonets.

  7. mikee Says:

As to diversity, my recent CHL class was over half older women. Don’t mess with grandmas….

  8. comatus Says:

    Mmm…camo dresses…

How’d you even see them there?
POIDH. Carpet, drapes, cut, jib, newsletter.

  9. Ted N Says:

mikee; the regs for getting anything cool home from the desert are a little retarded, and a pain in the ass, and if it’s something cool, it’s likely to get shot down or snatched by one of the bigger fish. Dunno when they tightened up, but now it’s pretty blah.

Dunno how stuff worked for Vietnam, obviously, maybe part of the rarity comes from weird culteral trying-to-forget-it-ness.

  10. Kristophr Says:

Ted N: In Vietnam, it was pretty much a matter of shoving it in your duffel bag and not getting caught.

The 1976 NFA Amnesty was about getting people to register all those toys they brought home.

  11. Stretch Says:

Was at NRA range a few weeks ago.
Multiple full family units (not just dads and sons).
Fair number of couples on shooting dates.
And a couple gal pals shooting together just as Brian and I were.
    We’re winning.

In MA, at least at my local club, we have been having “Ladies Night” shoots at the skeet and trap, rifle, and pistol ranges. Attendance at skeet and trap was over 30 women this year. I think clubs trying to dismiss the old boy’s club stigma is going a long way to introducing women to shooting sports.

Also agreed, the Nazi BS is ridiculous, but not as ridiculous as the “Rebel Pride” tables, complete with KKK night rider belt buckles. That stuff has no business at a gun show, or anywhere, in my opinion.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
