Technology and kids
It’s funny how they react to it. I mentioned before how they’d gone so long without ever seeing a commercial or a phone with a chord on it. They also didn’t have any idea how to roll down the windows in my F550, which actually has non-automatic windows, which I didn’t think they made anymore*.
But they discovered Google Earth and were checking out our house. Junior went outside to see if The Second could see her. I laughed a lot. Then explained to them that that was an older picture.
* We could have an entire conversation about things that you no longer see in or on cars.

I retrofitted a 90 chevy pickup once with floor dimmers. It was awesome!

Similar story at a friend’s house – kids looked at Google Earth, saw house picture, asked how the satellite was able to do that because it was dark out…..

As of the 2010 model the Ford Focus S still has manual windows. I know because we’re looking at used Focus’ (Foci?) and we were really surprised to find that the Focus S has manual windows with no option for power windows. (The SE and on up only offer power windows).
I don’t know about the 2011 or 2012 model years.

I thought it was Robb Allen who played chords on his guitar? Or do you have a musical phone?

I always liked wing windows in cars, and was sad when they disappeared due to streamlining car shapes.

Dimmer switch on floors! Had to retrain Mom when we got the “new” car with dimmer on turn signal lever.
Wing vents, crank windows, 8-track cassette players, FM converters, large compasses on dashboards, curb feelers, ‘neckers knobs’.
I love satellite radio and navigation, cruise control, anti-lock brakes, and all the other tech toys but were I to take a cross country road trip it be with Dad in his ’66 Mustang.

Hey look, the funniest thing I’ve ever seen is 13 kids aged 10 – 18 try and figure out how an envelope works. They had to open one and then sign some documents and put them in another one (folded) and seal it. Totally hilarious!
