Every now and again a discussion would come up abpout wearing body armor on duty. My response to that was to say “if I’m wearing armor, I’m wearing a pistol, too”.
If the threat is worth addressing, I’ll address it.
In my area, carrying a weapon on-duty is a serious no-no, and the legal aftermath would be a nightmare. I simply didn’t work in the dangerous places, and that was that. Not everybody has that choice though.

What about police car drivers or fire truck drivers? EMTs and Paramedics please.

In the 6+ years that I worked in civilian fire/EMS I never once encountered someone whose sole job was to drive the ambulance.
