Oregon, a year or two back, banned using a phone while driving without a hands-free device.
I predicted (and still do, but have seen no numbers) that this will increase accidents to the extent people obey it*, because people will be scrambling for a head set when someone calls them, instead of just picking up the damned phone.
(* I see people using a phone while driving, without such a device – and thus illegally – almost literally every day. So plainly it’s not preventing the behavior either.)
Yep, that’s what I predicted before it went into effect here in Vegas. Now all the people who were txting with their phones in their line of sight while driving are now doing it in their laps to avoid getting caught.
One of the few cases I actually believe that public service announcements would do more good.
I’d also be less annoyed by this if the pigs were not exempt, I see them txting and talking on the handset constantly.

If it weren’t for the victims of these texting while driving assholes, I’d cheer.
