Excellent Cuban Sandwiches
Last week, I stopped at The Aroma Cafe and had a Cuban sandwich. It came with red beans and rice. It was excellent. Highly recommended.

I live a few miles down the road from this place, and they do indeed have excellent sandwiches.
However, I’m going to predict that they won’t survive much longer. Their operating hours amount to “when we feel like working” and you just can’t stay in business when your clientele has to guess about when you’re open. Tried to get a sammich a few Saturdays ago at about 12:20pm and they were closed. They list their hours as “seasonal” and if you ask them what time they close on a particular day you will get a range, as in, “oh, sometime between six and seven”.
The food is great though. I’d recommend trying it, just call first and make sure they’re there.

They are great. Best red beans and rice I’ve ever had. What Dave D. said about their hours, though.

Hmm. Would I drive from Powell for a good sandwich? Probably. Disturbing news about their hours, however.

Damn good sammichs, and if they’re not there, venture on up the street for some DAMN good chikin & ribs. Rocky goes home to Jamaica, once a year, to get the peppers he uses in hit hot sauce. I even dip my fries in it.

Red beans? Cubans are supposed to be served with black beans and rice. (And a healthy dose of chopped onions.)
I recommend the roast pork Cuban (not the stange Tampa variety) at Tangelo’s Grill (go easy on the Matuka’s hot-hot-hot sauce!) if you are ever in Gulfport Florida – a short drive from downtown St. Pete, FL.

The best Cuban Sandwich I ever had was in a little Drug Store in Key West. It was made by actual Cubans. I have been searching for that same taste here in TN ever since.
