OMG! PEOPLE CAN EXERCISE THEIR RIGHTS
We need to find the real and moral courage to stand down the gun lobbies — the National Rifle Association and other Second Amendment zealots — whose reckless defense of gun rights has led to a society where almost anyone can acquire a Glock 9mm and the ammunition needed to ruin lives and communities in seconds.
When we get rid of “almost”, I’ll stop.

Yet, the largest private mass murders in the world involved fertilizer, fuel oil, or box cutters. Of course those pale in comparison to the scores of millions of murders committed by governments.

And pale even worse in comparison to murders committed by drunk/incompetent/whacko vehicle drivers. Oh! Sorry, we don’t call those murders, just ACCIDENTS.
Disregard.

Seems a big deal on the “counter” aspect, but if all else fails it does make more sense to fight back, than die on your knees.

Heck, even President Obama can acquire a Glock 9mm and all the ammo needed to ruin lives and communities in seconds. Then again he doesn’t need a Glock 9mm to do that. I wonder if he owns a gun?

This person should *SUPPORT* the NRA if they’re anti-gun, since the NRA actually endorsed a presidential candidate who actually *signed into law* legislation banning guns and stated in countless interviews his obvious disdain for guns (go see for yourself on Youtube). I’d think this would be the author’s #1 anti-gun lobbying choice (despite the false “pro-gun” rhetoric they espouse).

D.Fox if you are refering to Romney, Sebastien already debunked that statement.

I’ve never noticed a shooting “ruin communities”, let alone “in seconds”.
If anything, if they’re occurring frequently, it’s because the community is already ruined.

Eh, I don’t mind “almost,” properly understood. As a criminal defense attorney, I’ve come to meet people who quite simply can’t be trusted with that level of power and responsibility.
Also, at least one very liberal law school classmate of mine. When I offered to take him shooting for his first time (as I had done for at least a dozen other classmates), he said that he was concerned that if he had a gun, he’d just start shooting people.

Wolfwood; if someone is truly that crazy, the lack of a firearm will never stop them from killing. No; that type of statement (“I’m afraid that if I had a gun I’d start shooting people”) comes from someone who has been conditioned by the antis’ rhetoric. It’s an autohypnotic response. That’s how they want us all talking.

“even President Obama can”
Right. So when do we start hearing the demands for outlawing Presidents? And Politicians in general? Oh, and lawyers and judges? And Cops?

These douchebags might find it hard to stand us down while we’re kicking their balls up around their ears.

You have to love his use of terminology “…whose reckless defense of gun rights”. Since he acknowledges a right to own guns, what’s he complaining about? That the NRA has been reckless? And what, exactly, is the “reckless defense of rights”? By way of analogy, what would a reckless defense of freedom of speech look like?
Given that this was printed in the Boston Globe, his example is beyond laughable. I have a Massachusetts LTC, and I can’t buy a new Glock 9mm handgun for any price… because in Massachusetts they’re restricted to law-enforcement personnel. (I can legally buy one that was in Massachusetts before 1994, if I can find one.)

Daniel, Forget the Glocks…there are lots of other good fish in the sea…I’m very happy with my Sig P290…
Or the Colt 1908 .380 I bought for my wife…or the CZ-82 Czech surplus pistol that shoots 9mm Makarov…
Glock is not the only game in town…and those screwy little trigger safeties still bother me.
