“need”
When someone asks me why I “need” something, like an AR-15, I respond with a polite “because fuck you”. But others try to be more accommodating:
The left keeps asking why anyone needs an “assault” rifle. Here’s one reason — in 2010, a Texas teen used a rifle similar to the one used in Newtown to defend his younger sister and himself from home invaders.

I like to ask these folks a couple questions in return, like “Why do you need that V8 engine in your truck? Couldn’t you get there with a smaller engine, like maybe a four-cylinder?”
Or, “Why do you need a four-bedroom house, when you only have two kids? Wouldn’t a three-bedroom be more appropriate?”
The discussion usually goes south from there, but if enough people did it, it just might catch on.

AR15s are great guns for young shooters because of the light recoil and light weight of the gun.
After learning to shoot on a single shot bolt action scoped .22LR rifle with a Youth sized stock on it, my kids shot (rented) AR15s every time I’d let them. And shot them well.

Markie Marxist sez: “People only need what the Marxist state gives them, and we certainly wouldn’t allow as they need guns. They might shoot us with all the unpleasantness we have planned for them. Some people just won’t go to the death, uh, re-education camps willingly.”

Why do you need the money you are paid?
You should live in a prole habitat on prole chow provided by the government, and exercise when the Televisor screen orders you to do so.

it’s the Bill of Rights, not needs.

Try saying, “I’ll answer your question right after you explain why you get to determine my needs and does that mean I get to determine your needs?”

Michigamme: Too many of them already think “nobody needs a V8” and “everyone should [be forced to] have a much smaller house” already, is one problem.

The “need” question has always made me spitting angry. Not because I can or can’t prove a legitimate need for my AR, but because it’s a dishonest, rhetorical trap used by cowardly assholes who use the question to passive aggressively accuse law abiding gun owners of being paranoid nut cases.
The trap is that if you answer with any kind of justification (no matter how logical or true), you’re essentially agreeing that “need” is a valid basis for restricting particular firearms or their number. Then you’re reduced to arguing which firearms are permissible, not to mention WHO gets to make that decision.
So the correct answer, “because fuck you, that’s why” is a hell of a lot more important than it appears on the surface. It cuts the bastards off at the knees when they are trying to be sneaky.

Why do I “need” or “want” one? FOR ALL LAWFUL PURPOSES. That’s why!
