“If it saves just one life”
This is one of the dumbest canards ever. I’m sure prohibition saved just one life. Our onerous drug laws have probably saved just one life. Not signing the declaration if independence would have saved just one life. Not going to war in WW2 would have saved just one life. And on and on. Some things, simply, are worth lives.
But what is a life worth?

Hey, I’m just glad that no more people DIED from those EVIL LAWN DARTS.
But if he’s so concerned about “Saving Just One More Life”, why doesn’t Obama stop the Drone Strikes and all the “Collateral Damage” they cause? Or does he forget that Terrorists AS A MATTER OF TACTICS USE CHILDREN AS SHIELDS?
Oh, they don’t count. I see.

Amb. Stevens, among others, unavailable for comment.
You know, they did finally stop making Oldsmobiles.

I say keep turning that “If it saves just 1 life” back around at them! If it saves 1 woman from being assaulted, if it saves 1 clerk on a graveyard shift, if it saves 1 person from a violent partner who has just ignored his/her restraining order, then the gun is worth it.

Funny how they abandon this when the proposal is not one they favor.
I’ve proposed in a couple discussions that brought up mandatory training to own a gun that we do institute mandatory state-funded “gun proofing” instruction starting at kindergarten, so kids know the difference and how to deal with any real guns they might encounter and to remove the taboo allure of guns. Then in middle school, mandatory gun safety training along the lines required for kids to get hunting licenses. Then when they become adults, all citizens can enjoy their right to keep and bear arms while society as a whole can enjoy the fact that all citizens know the 4 rules for safe handling of firearms. Isn’t this worth if it saves just one life?
You should see how fast that idea gets jumped.

Allowing the South to succeed would have saved a half million lives.

Even the Clinton Justic Dept admitted that legal, defensive use of guns either thrwart crime or save lifes of intended victims as much as 2.5 million times per year…many, many times more than used crimnially or accidentially to kill. So yeah , Joe, if us having our guns saves at least one life, let’s keep what we’ve got and we’ll do the same for you.

Utopia: If it saves just one life, it’s worth the death of millions.

Ban swimming pools. No one needs a swimming pool, and they kill a lot more children than guns do.

Actually, prohibition killed thousands.

At my age, I’d be more afraid of a obamacare administrator than a shooter.

How many lives will that “one life” cost? And who is this “one life”, for which we must sacrifice so many other lives? Why is this “one” so damned important?
I call bullsh&t.

Lowering the national speed limit to 25 mph would save thousands of lives a year. Not too many in favor of that one.
