Headline: East Tennessee congressmen vote against domestic violence bill
What the bill really does: authorizes funding for programs to help prosecute cases of sexual assault and domestic abuse and provides assistance for victims of the crimes
See, domestic violence = money. Or something.

Gotta ‘love’ how they twist the truth for a headline…

For reasons that aren’t difficult to discern the particular issue this legislation attempts to marry itself to always riles me up.
It’s estimated that domestic violence is present in ~25% of relationships in the US. Where the violence is non-reciprocal (that is, where it is one-sided), women are the aggressors 70% of the time. In your circle of friends there are at least three dudes who are getting the crap beaten out of them at home by their wife/SO for every one woman who is similarly being victimized. This explains why there are so many abused men’s shelters and social services available to the men in your community.
Mothers are twice as likely as fathers are to abuse their children, and three times as likely to murder them. This explains why, culturally, we’re programmed to suspect any man left unattended with a child as a potential predator.
Clearly what’s needed is federal legislation to address the women of this country who have no recourse, legally or socially, should they find themselves on the wrong side of a thrown fist.

Most of the GOP caucus opposed the Senate version of VAWA for various reasons, in part because it granted tribal courts on Native American reservations jurisdiction over non-Native American men, a move of questionable constitutionality.

Yet another reason to stay out of tribal lands. (and the casinos on them)

Domestic violence law(s)started out, at least nominally, to stop men from beating their wives/SOs. It has morphed into a way to put anyone you have ever shared a house with into jail and without gun rights for looking at said person the wrong way. I exaggerate, but not much…
