Colion Noir, episode 1:
I particularly liked the discussion of inner city shootings v. people who do school shootings. Never thought of that.

Sadly this will only fall on deaf ears. The anti’s will ignore the message and instead focus on what they will see as someone who’s been deluded by the evil NRA into being their token black man.

Only thing I disagreed with is that our education system is “underfunded”.

@deadcenter.
I caught the “underfunded education system” reference too. Bad news. Study after study show that funding is not an adequte predictor of student success.
Thankfully I stuck with it to the end. He makes some very fine points about the causes of violence and the ineffective nature of “gun-control” which only serves to dissarm the honest and law-abiding citizens.
Molon labe’.
Never surender.
Never submit.

He did good (other than the education system crack).

“education system crack”
Really? When was the last time any of you were in a depressed inner city school? They look like the ghetto’s they’re situated in, with little difference between the classrooms and the streets. You’re telling me that doesn’t make a difference?

Inner city schools are falling apart from financial mismanagement, not from underfunding. Dig into their finances and you will find above-market wages and school systems heavy on administrators.
In short, the union makes sure the money is spent on salaries and benefits, not buildings and students.
According to a 2010 study by the Cato Institute, Chicago spends $16,000 per student per year.

MrSatyre,
If the inner city schools, which are heavily democrat and very union controlled, choose to spend education funds on administrators for this and coordinators for that instead of on maintenance then it is not a funding issue.
It is a priority of spending issue.
To answer your question yes it does make a difference. And much could be fixed by firing teacher in the rubber room, firing diversity coordinators and firing a bunch of administrators.

“And much could be fixed by firing teacher in the rubber room, firing diversity coordinators and firing a bunch of administrators.”
You forgot “and expecting the kids to actually work at their schooling”.

While I appreciate the need to be pedantic, especially regarding government spending, and certainly believe in everyone’s right to beat their particular dead horse, such as union malfeasance (yes, please!!), you might be missing the point. From the perspective of an inner city child attending a crap school with crap educators using crap materials to illustrate their complete disregard for that child and all of that child’s peers…THAT child’s education is underfunded. The school may not be, the teachers certainly aren’t, the administration? Yeah, we know where the money problems actually lie, but the education of the children who are supposed to be served? Underfunded.
So, rather than wasting time jumping on this one pedantic point, an arguable point from different perspectives, why don’t we spend a little more time supporting a popular pro-gun voice? Check out Mr. Colion Noir’s YouTube channel if you’re not familiar with his work. He’s got some interesting stuff. And I’m glad to see the NRA looking for and promoting different voices, it’s badly needed.
Or, you know, sweat the details of whether or not ‘funding’ is the best word choice.
Thanks,
JSG
