Why aren’t they using the DHS term for the 7000 recently purchased AR-15’s, “personal defense weapon”? That term fits precisely for my semi-auto rifles with standard capacity magazines.

And there really isn’t any excuse since the AP stylebook (a standard reference book) accurately defines dozens of firearm terms. This is just plainly bad journalism and at worst whoring ones talent to a social agenda.

Whoever defines the terms being used and especially when they consciously and knowingly misuse them, they are at best attempting to influence the discussion for their ‘side’ and more likely to misinform and mislead people who are not knowledgeable about the topic at hand. IOW – they are perpetrating a lie.
