But one thing is for certain. “Manchin-Toomey” is fun to say
Go ahead, try it.
Anyway, at first I was like Hey, it’s not terrible and if it does what the press releases said, some parts are pretty good. But then, the bill showed up. It’s all manner of not good and Dave Kopel tells you why:
The result of the disparity is “pro-gun” provisions which are actually very strong anti-gun provisions: The supposed ban on federal firearms registration authorizes federal gun registration. The supposed strengthening of FOPA’s interstate transportation protection exempts two of the worst states (the reason why FOPA was needed in the first place), and provides any easy path for every other abusive state to make FOPA inapplicable.
Further, the background check bill puts you at risk even if you’re trying to follow the law. So, all of you who didn’t listen to me when I was all like “Meh” were right.
Speaking of not listening to me, I also said that I thought the fix was in. Turns out, not so much:
In spite of a vote last Thursday in favor of debating new gun measures, some Democrats who are facing re-election next year in conservative states have already said they will not vote for the background check measure offered by Senators Patrick J. Toomey, Republican of Pennsylvania, and Joe Manchin III, Democrat of West Virginia, forcing Democrats to look desperately across the aisle to fill the gaps.
Republicans, in the meantime, are bitterly torn between moderates who feel pressure to respond to polls showing a majority of Americans in support of some new gun regulations and conservatives who are deeply opposed to them.
Politicians want to be re-elected, you know. So, the bill may be going away.
So, in short, don’t listen to me.

Sounds like “Mansion / Tomb-ey”. Promise you a big house, but it’s actually a mausoleum.

Yes it’s fun to say, but not as much fun to say as “All-Purpose Cultural Cat-Girl Nuku-Nuku”.

As you can see from his photographs, Manchin has the flat affect of a psychopath. He needs to go. Booyah! Bitch!
