Getting it

The NRA wins because it has influence and grassroots. Anti-gun people throw money at it and have no real support.

And, yes, the senators are on our side. They see where the wind blows.

  1. Mike Gordon Says:

The author of the Mother Jones article seems to understand how the NRA prevailed but the comments section is very indicative how how clueless most on the left are. After explaining very well how real grassroots political power beat Bloomberg’s money the commenters rant about how the gun industry’s money bought the Senate. Can’t these morons at least read the article before commenting?

  2. Windy Wilson Says:

but NRA money is magically more powerful than the gun grabbers’ money you see.

  3. Captain Holly Says:

Neither author truly “gets it”. Yes, they seem to finally realize the NRA is bigger and more powerful than all the gun control groups combined, and it’s largely due to grass-roots activism instead of paying off politicians.

But both appear to be still operating under the faulty assumption that there is a massive anti-gun majority hidden out there in America, just waiting for all those cousin-humping rednecks to finally die off so they can enact “common sense” proposals.

The reality is most Americans instinctively realize that when the chips are down it’s better to be armed than unarmed. So while they tell the pollsters who call them out of the blue they want stricter gun laws, when they get to the voting booth they often vote for the candidate who supports their right to buy a gun whenever they feel need it.

I can’t believe people still spout that crap about gun manufacturer’s money buying the vote. They love jumping when they hear about the corporate profit boogy man.

Yeah, the gun industry wants to make sure people can easily buy and trade used guns in the private re-sale market- because, hey, if one gun gets sold five separate times that means five times the profit! Think of the killing Wal-Mart must make because of the unregulated Craigslist market. Plus, think about how bad for business it must be to have a law that forces potential customers into retail stores. Damn evil corporate interests.

I don’t buy the fact that 90% of Americans want background checks for informal sales.

The other side bandies it around like it’s Gospel, but I don’t accept its validity.

The NRA represents many, many people who are not members but who think similarly.

    Congress knows this.

And they know we have a long memory.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
