My high school classmates kept rifles in plain view on gun racks in their pickups in the school parking lot during hunting season in the 1970s. No one even so much as blinked an eye at it. I don’t recall a single word ever being said about it.
Currently, I bring multiple shotguns (to demonstrate the different action types) into the school each year to teach a safety class for the school trap shooting team. Strangely, no one freaks out and shits themselves.
Sanity, People. It’s within your grasp. Get a fusking grip, M’Kay?
High school campus. Safe school zones. In this climate (post-Columbine, post-Newtown) …? Tough for the kid, but those laws will be the last to change. There is no percentage to any politician to propose the change. Hoping for prosecutorial discretion and/or sensible judge.
I would have left school as skipping school beats a felony. What is not clear is who is charging and prosecuting him. If I were a member of the school board I would suggest that the person making the decision get some common sense or seek employment elsewhere. Unless someone stands up to crap like this it will not stop. TS
Zero tolerance = zero thought. There’s no room for anyone at any level to realize what they’re doing is bravo sierra and just stop. There’s no room to realize it’s a good kid and just say, “hey, we can’t let you do that, stop it.” Car manufacturers strive for the fastest 0-60, legislators strive for the fastest 0-felony.
You are correct in that no politician will touch that third rail. However, this could be the perfect opportunity and person to overturn these POS laws through the courts under “Shall NOT be infringed”.
The young man should have put his gun away. I can not imagine leaving a shotgun after shooting in the car. It needs to be cleaned!!. He was lazy and then should have left school to get the gun back home. What this young man failed was to be paranoid enough. It is a lesson I constantly preach to my own son. But we live in the Socialist state of MD.
When I was in high school I shot skeet twice a week and often had shot shells in my pocket. This was in the 70’s and when I was bored in class I would slice them open with my buck knife. There was no panic then. My GOD I had a knife and a shot shell.
Just last night at the opening of Ironman 3 someone spotted a shotgun with shells in someone’s car and called police. You can imagine the response to that one. Turned out the guy shoots skeet for the US Olympic Team.

It wasn’t a crime– “…shall not be infringed.”

This is what happens when we allow the legislature to make the law.

they should demand that the county school board reverse the decision, and that the person at the school who made this decision be fired.
Then make them aware that if they do not, recall petitions will be circulated, and every one of them will be replaced with new board members.

The kid was stupid. As soon as he saw the shotgun he should have packed up, skipped school for the day, and drove back to the range.
Blabbing to mom you have a gun on campus is not smart, especially if others overhear the conversation.

His problem was he tried to follow the laws. He should have instead hid his activity.
