I’ve read this exchange for years now, but there is nothing in it to make me believe that “the shoulder thing that goes up” means sling. It most likely means hinged buttplate.
It pays us not to generate garbage talking points like the other side always does.
Rivrdog, I’m with you. “the shoulder thing that goes up” was her response to being asked what a barrel shroud was – and that ain’t a sling, no matter how you twist it. My personal guess is she was thinking of a collapsible/folding stock, but I doubt we’ll ever know with any degree of certainty.
The “shoulder thing…” quote is great – everyone who sees or hears it recognizes the profound depths of ignorance behind it – we really don’t need to try and define it any closer.

Barrel shroud is fairly self-explanatory. TS
