Apparently SYG does have one connection to the Zimmerman case – if you’re found not guilty for reasons of self-defense, the SYG law makes you civilly immune in Florida.
That’s what’s got The Other Side™ so pissed off about SYG, I think.

Kevin, does the same immunity apply for plain-vanilla self-defense as was the case with Zimmerman?

IANAL, but from what I’ve read, yes. If he’s sued civilly, Zimmerman’s lawyers will claim that SYG provides an affirmative defense because his DGU was lawful.
