I don’t begrudge anyone who carries a Hi-Point and has a cheap but serviceable holster. You carry what you can afford, and do what you must to protect yourself and your family. I’ve had to make such choice in the past, as I bet most have.
A Hi-Point in hand beats an a Glock on the shelf every day of the week.
I don’t make fun of people who drive cheap POSs. Whatever you can afford and need to get you to work, then so be it. I feel the same way about this guy carrying his Hi-Point in a cheap Uncle Mike’s. If that’s the best you can afford, then carry on.
I think Uncle Mike’s makes a fabric pancake style one-size-fits-all holster with a proper thumb-break for the same cost as their generic sporting belt holsters like that one.
At the least I’d recommend the guy get one of those for comfort, better concealment, and more security.
Don’t look like athletic shorts, drape is more like a Dickies work short, which require a belt. I’m betting thats the case. Hard to hold that gun up on elastic waistbands!

Yup. And nylon holster beats waistband carry any day.
I carried in an Uncle Mike’s IWB sack holster for a while, too. Partly because of financial reasons, but also because it was simply the best holster for my gun that they had in the local gun shop at the time. It let me carry while I scoured the interwebs and other local sources for something better.
I too can’t figure out whats keeping his pants up. Either he’s got those shorts tied so tight that blood can’t get to those legs, or hes got suspenders under that shirt…
Down here in Texas, sandals and shorts are the Standard Male Summer Uniform. It’s too hot to wear regular shoes. He should have a Hawaiian shirt to be properly attired, though.
Those are just any type of flip-flops…those are the new kevlar strap, nanoparticle embedded carbon fiber sole flip-flops…pffft, what do you guys know???
Flip flops are for public showers, the beach and quick morning trips to the grocery store for the bacon you forgot to get the night before. If you need open toed shoes, proper sandals with the heel strap is the way to go.
Wow when you people say you hate elitism you mean it any other major community say skiing and they would be calling a similarly under eqiped participant a “fag” and a “loser”
See, for everyone thinking I’m a hater because I don’t think poor people should be allowed to carry, I offer this:
Makarov
Tokarev
P-64
Cz82 & Cz83
Should be able to find ONE of them as inexpensively as a HiPoint, and ALL of them are more reliable. Even the Tok is at least as safe (i.e., best carry either a HiPoint or a Tokarev with teh chamber empty).

I’m sorry, but guns & flip flops are a fashion faux pas.
August 20th, 2013 at 1:34 pm
Well that certainly is a versatile holster…
August 20th, 2013 at 1:37 pm
“flip flops” – are you referring to the footwear, or the holster?
August 20th, 2013 at 1:45 pm
I know a guy who wins IDPA matches in flip flops.
August 20th, 2013 at 1:51 pm
If I’m not mistaken, the holster is a PERFECT match for the gun. Not that I’m any expert on the Bricks, but that’s a High Point, n’est pas?
August 20th, 2013 at 1:54 pm
He had to added the gun to counteract the inherent un-manliness of wearing shorts and flip-flops into a gun store.

“I know a guy who wins IDPA matches in flip flops.”
The match director at our USPSA matches has been known to go barefoot.
However, generally flip flops are a piss poor choice of footwear, should you need to run.

We had many people killed by men wearing flip flops and carrying guns. Remember Vietnam.

Fashion Faux Pas, Robb? Looks Color-Cordinated to me. ; )
And if it’s Low-Budget, well, maybe that’s why he’s in the Gun Shop? Seeing how much it costs to do an Up-Grade?
But at least he’s carrying SOMETHING out on the Streets, other than 911 on Speed Dial.
August 20th, 2013 at 2:48 pm
He probably needs a “main-gauche” piece to safely make it through the Knoxville Greenways.

What I couldn’t figure out was how the holster was attached given his athletic shorts.
August 20th, 2013 at 2:57 pm
I’ve been in his shoes, (quite literally!) and I’ve had the chance to upgrade, all three; gun, holster, and shoes. All of us start somewhere.
I’d rather be there, than not be prepared at all.
Remember, the first rule of a gunfight: Bring a gun!

Open carry without a retention holster?
Unwise.

you should carry what you can afford to get confiscated by the po-po after a self-defense incident.
