no way in hell that thug wrote that. same tired arguments as always, research doesn’t back them up, but hey get a murderer to say it and maybe people will believe it!!
“Aggressive prosecutions are punishment measures that, frankly, do not deter criminals from acquiring, possessing, or killing with guns. Conversely, intensifying background checks will change the game and spook those who buy guns for criminals. This will deter so-called straw purchases.”
So, aggressive prosecution doesn’t deter, but a background check (already in place BTW) will? All righty then.
Also, straw purchasing is already a federal felony that can put you in prison for 10 years and hit you with a $250,000 fine for each firearm.
“Similarly, it should raise red flags when a person who has never bought a gun suddenly buys five handguns. If the buyer is, for example, purchasing the guns for a drug dealer in the parking lot, he or she will be shaken if the sales clerk says something like, ‘We have to call and document this purchase with a new agency.'”
ATF already requires reporting of multiple handgun purchases within a seven day period.
It seems to me that this dude is advocating for things that are already law.
Just the usual baloney that gun-control is useful for crime control.
So far there is little evidence that any kind of gun-control has any significant influence on violent crime. Recently crime rates have plunged despite years of increased firearms sales.
And why would anyone reasonably believe gun-control could have any effect? The volume of crimes that involve firearms is a drop in the ocean of legal firearms commerce. The crazy justification for gun control is drain the ocean just to try and get at that one drop.
Yes, of course the common criminal supports gun control just like many politicians. They want to take from others what they keep for themselves since an armed citizenry poses a threat to both of them and for the same reasons.
“Likewise, it’s bizarre that the bazaars selling guns aren’t regulated.” That one sentence told me all I needed to know about the heft of the intellect behind this article.
