Haven’t read that in years
NJT has a book report on Elric of Melniboné. Been a while since I’ve read that and I read it a few times. The that struck thing to me about the series is that Elric is the exact opposite of Conan the Barbarian and other hero fiction.
Elric is a king. Conan becomes one.
Elric is weak. Conan is strong.
Conan hates magic. Elric uses it.
Conan gets every thing he wants. Elric loses it all.
I may need to go find my copy. Looks like it may be a movie soon.
And I have a sad because Michael Moorcock types in all caps on the internet.

Am actually surprised that Moorcock even knows what the Net is.

Oh man! Elric was the coolest. And Stormbringer and Mournblade! The daughter is into sword and sorcery in all its variants and we’ve spent hours talking about the Demon Swords. And you have hidden depths, Uncle.

If you’re even remotely interested in Elric, I highly recommend the rest of Moorcock’s books. They are all connected; each character is an alternate version of the other.

They have been talking about a movie for years and years. I’d love to see a proper elric movie, in the same gritty style like blade or underworld. Elric has always been the best anti hero, set in one of the best worlds, with the most kick ass swords ever created.

I wish they would make an Elric movie…but I doubt it will happen. I’ve read just about everything he wrote. I loved Corum and Hawkmoon was pretty good. I loved the concept of the eternal champion. Ahhh…nostalgia!

Generally people who have primitive means to post ( cheap cell phones being the usual culprit ) end up going all caps.

Corum was another one who was tragic. Von Bek coming out ok in The Warhound etc. was a pleasant surprise, and I even had sympathy for the Devil. 😉

My sister is featured in the Stormbringer RPG artwork.

I doubt they’ll ever get it made — sword & sorcery is a tough sell, just look at the poor box office for SOLOMON KANE. But if they ever find the backing, Benedict Cumberbatch would make a great Elric. He already looks like an albino in that new Julian Assange movie…

Moorcock committed the ultimate heresy: he dissed LotR.
