Being a decades-long fan of less of it, I still feel that “shutting down the government” isn’t helpful, won’t save any money, and won’t cause Joe Sixpack or Jane Whinebox to suddenly realize we can get by with far less.
Oh and of course don’t forget that the government’s most critical mission, unconstitutional spying on innocent US citizens, will continue throughout any shutdown.
The Repubs ought to send a bill the fully funds Obamacare except it explicitly strips the President of any power to grant wavers, and voids any extrajudicial wavers already granted.
>> … delay measure would still have to be passed by President Obama, who has vowed not to accept any delays to the health law as part of the negotiating process.
Yea just make the bill void ANY wavers… EVER, for any us citizen (and that includes congress, IRS, ATF, FBI, CIA, NSA, DEA, DOJ, etc…. federal government or civilian.
With the government shut down, are the politi-critters still getting paid?
I mean, I have to go into work every day, sometimes not coming home for weeks for extended field exercises, and I’m not getting paid during the shutdown. Fuck me then, right?
Although I’m sure Chairman O’ will be stomping and screaming with his Marxist forked tongue if his “signature” wealth redistribution law is delayed one minute, I can only hope the spineless House Republicans can regenerate backbones to draw a real “red line” in the sand and shut the intrusive, infringing and bullying beast down if challenged.
The subsequent events, propaganda and media sound bites will be worthy of a few sour mashes on the rocks, a good cigar and a comfortable chair. Pure entertainment indeed.
Contractually obligated to work regardless of the state of government finances (being: can they pay me or not)
The HOUSE passed a bill to cover military pay and some federal civilian pay, but that bill does not have allowances to prevent reductions in medical coverage, training, maintenance, or closures of key post installations (the commissary, for example, has already warned it will end up closed due to furloughs)

Sounds like a good idea SM.

Every dang US citizen has to join Obamacare.
It’s all or nothing.

When the government is NOT shut down, don’t they get into all kinds of mischief?

Twitchy’s having fun with it. I like “if I like my shut down government can I keep it?”. http://twitchy.com/2013/09/28/will-cowboys-still-write-poetry-with-funding-showdown-looming-citizens-ask-shutdownquestions/

The bigger the government is, the greater the pain when it shuts down.
A teachable moment.

“I’m not getting paid during the shutdown.”
Didn’t the 13th amendment outlaw that?
