IIRC, a lot of them wound up in the former Yugoslavia after WWII, and got scattered hither and yon during the Cold War. Like Vz-52 rifles, they turn up in the oddest places.
During the early days of OIF, I remember a guy on TFL or THR asking if any units out there had found any 7.92×33; he was offering to trade FG-42 (!) mags for all he could get.
“Though what kind of Spec-UPS or tactical Amazon will fetch those StG-44s from syrian exhibitors to USA?”
I can just imagine the ninja operator tacticool heavily armed Fed-exSOG delivery guys dropping from their black helicopters to leave me my packages, on the neighbor’s porch, of course.
