Government by temper tantrum

So, OMG, the shutdown happened. And mostly people didn’t notice. So, the .gov is out there making life as difficult for people as we can.

And, so, the shutdown theater commenced:

Shutting down the Amber Alert page. Because petty politics is more important than finding missing kids.

Police are removing veterans from memorials.

Putting up cones to block the views at Mt. Rushmore.

Tried to shut down a privately run park.

Kicking people out of their private homes.

And shutting down and patrolling the ocean. Because patrolling it costs less than leaving it be.

It’s all disgusting. Our government is putting barricades up to keep law-abiding citizens out. Not a barricade to stop terrorists or people crossing the border. But 90 year old veterans.

I’m not sure I’d pull out my tinfoil beanie just yet. But it’s going to be an interesting next 10 days.

More closures here and here.

Regarding the Amber Alert shut down, only Obama would consider giving pedophiles a head start a ‘necessary government expenditure.’

    “But 90 year old veterans.”

To be fair, the 90 year old veterans are living example of men who fought to be free and had faith in the Constitution. And that, they cannot abide.

Although, one has to wonder if there are some covert libertarians in the NPS, USFS hierarchy who are secretly using these actions as part and parcel examples of Big Government overreach. Overflowing trashcans and locked restrooms would provoke anger at the government shutdown. The closing off of open air monuments and scenic lookouts, etc. seems to be provoking anger at government and its intrusions.

They are called “Barrycades” around here (DC) and they are popping up randomly downtown on streets that are managed by the Feds.

Went to dinner with the wife in DC over the weekend because she’s wanted to try this one restaurant for over a year now (we generally avoid DC). Took an extra 20 minutes to get where we needed to go because of the various shutdowns. Didn’t help that some wackos went nuts in the area the days before.

Reminded me of places I saw while serving in the military.

“Did they put that fence up to keep me out or keep mother nature in?” has not quite the meaning those hippie-dippie Canuckistan songwriters of 1970 had in mind, eh?

There’s a million biker rally coming up this weekend in D.C. The concept of “RAPE BACK AGAINST BARACK” may find some expression. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s 1.5 million and then some.
Remember, you have a right to political expression, even it’s obscene. Thus, it is perfectly legal to say, “FUCK YOU CUNT!” to a D.C. police woman with a German shepard, while giving the cunt the finger. After all, this is America, so do be expressive. It’s your First Amendment right, which still seems to mean something, even if the Second Amendment doesn’t.
BTW, FUCK YOU OBAMA, AND FUCK YOU CUOMO TOO! YOU COMMIE CUNTS!

As a DOD civillian, we are required to show up for work despite the fact we will not be paid until the shut-down is over. They purposefully furloughed people at DFAS that process pay for the DOD. That includes the military. They are not being paid either. This was targeted to make this as painful on all of us as possible. With the current status the outlook doesn’t look good. I dont think we’ll be seeing a paycheck for at least a month. I’m not complaining, I should be fine. But I know that an E-3 in the Army lives barely above the poverty line. How long can they hold out?

In the future, if you want something conserved or commemorated, will you turn it over to the government?

I can never figure out why Nature Conservancy gathers private funds to buy private lands, and then turns it over to The State. Some hunter-conservation alliances do the same. I don’t contribute to those, because Government.

My city, in the Twenties, built state of art garbage incinerators, fired by anthracite. They were good, especially compared to the then-current alternatives. The first time The People In Their Wisdom refused a muni tax increase, the anthracite vanished, and several pretty decent neighborhoods were turned, literally, into dumps for 40 years. It’s what government does, and that’s what governments do.

What will the spitehouse close next?

Better question – how long until there is a confrontation.

  9. Ed Says:

When people perceive that life goes on without a large Federal government presence in their daily lives, how will they justify the costs of bringing that large presence back online?

settles, I may be dealing with old/superseded info here, but I got an e-mail last Thursday from DFAS which said that retirees/annuitants would still be paid, as our money didn’t come out of the CRA pot.

Still, if there’s nobody there to push the button to make the DFAS ‘puters send 1’s and 0’s to our banks…

And it’s not like the lower enlisted grades are going to turn out in large numbers to vote for the D’s anyway. Especially if the R’s get the blame for this group coitus.

  11. blounttruth Says:

Yes sir, government for, by, and of the people where the people are ruled by consent in a free nation, where honest and valid elections occur, where torture is legal, where bankers steal billions and do not go to jail. What were you saying about exceptionalism?

Until the people wake up and can admit to themselves that there has been a constitutional overthrow of the US government then nothing will ever change for the better, and yet partisans still run around cheering for their team as opposed to the best person for the job.

Vote em out in 2014, or we will certainly regret the inaction of the masses.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
