I live in Memphis, I very rarely feel unsafe. I don’t believe that we are worse than Chicago or DC. Give me the raw data and I can make Alaska look like the deadliest place on earth. 86% of stats are made up on the spot.
I feel safer in Chicago and Gary, Indiana than I did in Memphis. However, might have been where we stayed (Spring Mills by the river). We would wake up to the sound of gun fire.
Many Tennesseans think anatomically whenever the subject of Memphis comes up. ‘Round here we refer to Memphis as the sphincter* of the state (and from a geographical location the description fits).
*[We don’t really say “sphincter” ’round here…more like words that rhyme with Bass Pole, Gas Sole, Crass Mole, etc..]
So site where the major contributors to high crime are centered in each state, like Memphis for TN, and I will show you a great big political blue dot.

Show me murder statistics, other violent crime statistics and property crime statistics.
But leave out poverty stats, higher education stats, etc.
I want to know about crimes – not “danger”.
And, yes, unc., it’s mostly Memphis and, to a lesser extent, Nashville.

We live in a State where you will be arrested for openly carrying a pistol. We might as well be in Illinois. What do you expect?

Agree with all y’all about Memphis; I don’t set foot out of doors unarmed and I don’t go anywhere I can’t BE armed.
Are we overlooking Chattanooga’s contribution here?
