Tom Clancy gained my admiration not only for his writing but for remaining in Baltimore long after he could afford to move away.
He stayed there on his own terms, due to his immense wealth.
The last news article I read on him described the gun range he was trying to get permitted in his high rise condominium home, on Baltimore Harbor.
When you are rich enough to flaunt not just your political opposition to local tyrants, but also rich enough to act against them, you have done something right.
Plus he wrote some darn good airline reading.
