Governor Moonbeam Vetoes Semi-Auto Ban
Good for Jerry Brown. He’s either for civil liberties or knows which way the wind is blowing:
I don’t believe that this bill’s blanket ban on semi-automatic rifles would reduce criminal activity or enhance public safety enough to warrant this infringement on gun owners’ rights

He actually wrote (personally) a helpful amicus brief in the McDonald case.
I dunno if I’d call him pro-gun, but he’s not an anti either.

@ matt
I didn’t know that.
@ uncle
But he still signed the ban on lead. So not a win win.

But do notice Gov. Moonbeem was still willing to infringe on peoples rights IF he judged it would have done something for ‘crime’ in his opinion.
He is still a liberal sellout.

I’ll still take it. I completely expected the semi auto ban to get signed. The lead ban is bad, but not in the same league of bad as the semi auto ban would’ve been. His signing briefs, where he used them, are pretty good too.

As some one on the Book of Face put it: Sometimes, you just get surprised.

I am more suspicious that he did the math on the probability of the courts killing the law and possibly by extension other laws and decided to not bet the farm on a proposition with a probability of loss

Plus it would face an invariable failure at the Supreme Court, once it got there.
I doubt the State could afford the defense of the law, given their current financial straits.

One has it on good authority that he owns a couple of rifles that would have been banned.

“enough to warrant this infringement on gun owners’ rights”
In other words, there could be a signature in the future on a ban bill more narrowly tailored, as the legal phrase goes.
