To be fair to Dennis Marschalko (in case he didn’t want to be associated with the method of finishing), he sent me these grips unfinished. This was my first attempt at “torch finishing”, using a pen-style Bernz-o-matic torch, followed by a few coats of Birchwood Casey tru-oil.
You would win that bet. That EG Mak is my carry weapon. As far as reliability goes, I don’t trust any others above this one. Getting used to the bottom mag release takes a bit of time, but she goes BOOM every time I pull the trigger. And accurate as all hell. Slightly outperforms my Bulgarian and Russian Maks.

When I looked at them, my first thought was ” They look like grill marks…”. Thanks to John’s comment above, now I know why.
