On the supposed deal to re-open the government
The establishment of both parties use it to poo-poo the tea party. I think that’s what it was about the whole time. My opinion on it, anyhoo. And there not have been a default on the debt had the ceiling not been raised, as a matter of law. Another lie your politicians and the press (but I repeat myself) tell you.

The “default” thing never made sense; tax income was still always greater than debt payments.
The only way to “default” under those circumstances is to decide that Everything Else Was More Important than paying the debt payments.
Which, of course, the lack of a debt ceiling deal in no way required…
