As I originally read this story the problem wasn’t with a crazy ex but with a mother (as in “she is my mother”) that was concerned about his state of mind so called the police.
She hung up (as I recall) before she got an answer, but it was 911 so the police came to her anyway and got her story. Then they called him, convinced him to come back to his mothers house and then searched his car.
Moral of the story – don’t complain to your mother about your crazy ex and how you miss your son if your mother is stupid enough to call the police.
And, never voluntarily interact with the police. I don’t even want to do it here in AZ where there is some semblance of justice and certainly would NEVER submit to a conversation is a police state like NJ.
I agree with Scott here. This falls on him failing to understand NJ’s gun laws, and him crying to his mother – who then called the police – didn’t help. That he voluntarily met the police with his guns is the icing on the cake. He’s a victim of his own ignorance, although I’m sure his ex is loving it because custody is completely off the table now. And probably visitation for that matter. But this guy isn’t a victim of bad gun laws, he’s a victim of his own actions, and his helpful mother.

Any question as to why I fled the Peoples Republik of New Jersistan 13 years ago for the Gunshine state of Florida?
