The thesis also presumes on the power of the word “racist” to invoke terror in the subject of the study. These guys don’t realize the race card is overdrawn.
Well, since I’ve already been called racist for everything from supporting the idea that justice should be colorblind, to disliking the policies of the present administration, to being born a person of pallor, I’m happy with this. I’d actually rather be maligned for doing something I like, such as shooting, than for espousing centuries-old political truisms, being non-liberal, or just because of the color of my skin.
This way at least I’m getting something out of the deal.
Here’s an excerpt of Chief Justice Roger Taney’s majority opinion in the 1857 Dred Scot decision keeping black people as slaves in all of the United States. Note his reason:
“…it would give them the full liberty of speech in public and in private upon all subjects upon which its own citizens might speak; to hold public meetings upon political affairs, and to keep and carry arms wherever they went. And all of this would be done in the face of the subject race of the same color, both free and slaves, and inevitably producing discontent and insubordination among them, and endangering the peace and safety of the State.
