But it’s the law of the land and it cannot be stopped

Remember when delay was just crazy tea-bagger talk? Regardless, President Law-Breaker (hey, what’s one more?) has exceeded his authority on this one. He has required new action by insurers and is delaying it, hoping for it new legislation and not enforcing provisions of the current legislation. This is, basically, Obama unilaterally passing a law.

And the president has no authority to do that.

The idea that insurers, in mid-November, can suddenly reverse business plans in place for years and get 5 million+ cancelled policies back in place by the end of the year is worse than laughable. It’s madness.

  2. KsGunner Says:

That of course assumes that the insurance companies are willing to play scapegoat for tue 0man. Which I am quite sure they are not and will do the only sensible thing and tell him to get bent, preferably through their lawyers. This particular bit of desperate posturing makes me think that the whitehouse’s internal polling is even worse than what publicly available poll data is and they ate running scared trying to stop the bleeding and save thir one dubious achievement.

An insurance industry insider told me “Your post is exactly what we were just talking about. The magnitude is staggering.”

  4. KM Says:

    Glorious Leader has proclaimed!
What exactly he proclaimed will be clarified later depending on how the polls go…

Laws? We don’t need no stinking laws!

  5. AndyN Says:

Playing along, ignoring that he has no real authority to do this, and pretending that it’s even possible, this would mean the next round of cancellation notices are hitting people’s mailboxes the month before mid-terms. The only thing I can figure is that the Democrats assume that if they can get this out of the spotlight now, over the ensuing year the GOP will find some way to blow the easy layup.

  6. Gerry Says:

    Congress made law. (POTUS happy)
Supreme Court upheld law. (POTUS very happy)
POTUS decides screw the law? (POTUS talked to Eric Holder?)

KsGunner: Unfortunately, that will play right into Obama’s hands, letting him point at the insurance companies while shouting “See! Teh ebil insurance companies don’t want you to have your cheaper plans back! It’s all the fault of those greedy capitalists! Single payer is the only way to keep costs under control!”

The fact that the alternative was both illegal and impossible will be buried by the propaganda machines, so that most voters won’t even know it.

  8. Paul Says:

Renewed for ONE year? He said you could keep your policy, PERIOD.

What is more, Obama ain’t no king. He cannot just wave his wand and the law governing this just disappears. Regulations have to be changed and that takes time.

Even Howard Dean, the super liberal, is saying it is not legal for him to do this.

So Obama is still a lying sack of you-know-what.

  9. Joe Huffman Says:

Even if it were possible for the insurance industry to change course that quickly, it’s not, many state insurance laws would be broken in the process. It’s a real train wreck.

  10. KSGunner Says:

So it turns out that the people telling 0bama to get bent are both the insurance companies, and much more troubling for him is that state insurance commissioners are having none of it. See the story here: http://hotair.com/archives/2013/11/14/scapegoated-insurers-fire-back-at-obama-over-administrative-fix-youre-not-pinning-this-obamacare-mess-on-us/

    BTW Bammie, groid.

  13. JKB Says:

“What we want to do is to be able to say to these folks, you know what, the Affordable Care Act is not going to be the reason why insurers have to cancel your plan. Now, what folks may find is the insurance companies may still come back and say, we want to charge you 20 percent more than we did last year, or we’re not going to cover prescription drugs now.”

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
