Quote of the day
My dad on his new hearing aid: “I didn’t realize how much your mother talked. “
My dad on his new hearing aid: “I didn’t realize how much your mother talked. “
Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.

An old man is driving down a country road, enjoying the beautiful day, and humming softly to himself, when a cop flashes his lights behind him and pull him over.
Policeman: Sir, the reason I stopped you is that you left your wife behind at the gas station.
Old man: I did? Oh, thank goodness.
Policeman: Thank goodness?
Old man: Yes, I thought I’d gone deaf.

Good for your dad. Technology has really advanced for hearing aids. The new digital hearing aid will raise volume only on those frequencies where there is a hearing loss. This makes them a lot better to live with.

Hearing aids still suck though. They work real well in quiet environments but if you’re around any amount of noise it still all blends together and you can’t hear shit. Doesn’t matter if they are analog or digital they both do it.
Ask your dad about noises and memory. When I first got mine it was like recalling a bunch of old memories. I had no clue what I was missing out on until I could hear them again. Talk about sensory overload.

On a not dissimilar note, until I moved back in after buying half the house a second time, I didn’t realize what real quiet was. I kinda like it, so I doubt I’d ever buy a hearing aid to change it.

Best thing about them is you can turn ’em off.

A recent “graduate” from dial-up, 10 year old processors and OS, I finally have high speed, wireless, streaming, etc….
I was warned “With the new technology, you’ll “experience” how broadly, and how far, into the hole Americans have sunk, EVEN FASTER.
OTOH, I probably would have never stumbled across Say Uncle (courtesy hyperlink @ Insta)

I have a beloved family member that wears a hearing aid.
It takes “Selective Hearing” to a whole new level.
Yeah, he’s a “slickster” and he can get away with almost anything during a conversation or, even worse, eavesdropping…

I’m about to go to an audiologist and no doubt will be wearing hearing aids in a month or so. When I was young (shut up) I didn’t wear hearing protection when shooting as is highly recommended. At least, not often. That and the rock ‘n roll, now I know my ears are pretty much just for decoration. Anyway, glad to hear (pun intended) that my wife probably will get to quit hearing me say “say again”.
