Wildcat 50BMG/17
Oh sure, anyone can neck down a .50 to 5.56.
But necking one down to .17 cal, that’s something.

If it did work the barrel would last one round before being incinerated.

Funny. Makes you wonder, sort of like wondering how zombies keep going without being able to digest all of the guts they eat, or do they get infected?

That should leave a mark.

It would shoot a little puff of lead vapor out the muzzle with each shot, leaving the bore nice and copper plated. 😀

You should check out my “SM Improved 50BMG17”.
It chambers and fires this cartridge as is, but with a slightly modified chamber allows an extra 14 grains of powder in the newly fire-formed brass.

If the projectile held together, would we need to calculate its relativistic mass?

So THAT’S how one makes the Jump to Lightspeed!

While this would make a nice novelty, the really interesting version would use a sabot and a 1″ long .17″ tungsten dart. 120 gr projectile at 5000+ft/s could really ruin your day.

I second the sabot/dart combo, but suggest that more than one dart could be used. Is there a .50BMG round that carries multiple darts in a sabot, effectively the equivalent of cannister tank rounds for antipersonnel use at close range?

Ah yes; the old .17 Headhunter. I saw something like that, what, about 10 or 12 years ago? Several poeple had their own versions of it, but this newer one looks the coolest.
I guess we need a .223 Rem or better yet a .25 Auto case necked up to 50 cal. Case support would be in the bolt face, see. An African dangerous game vest pocket pistol? Who wouldn’t want that?
That’s about as ridiculous as I can come up with, since we already have the .17 Headhunter.
