I often wonder what could have been done if he had been born on this side of the Iron Curtain, and could have worked with Browning.
Of course, then I start wondering what it would have been like if he had been German. (Probably would have resulted in him being nothing, since the Germans would have considered his work “too crude”.)
There’s a degree of evidence that German prisoners did the bulk of the work over at Izmash so his being born in the west might very well have led to utter obscurity.

Kalashnikov may have only created one firearm but that one still puts him in the same league as Sam Colt, John Browning, and Eugene Stoner.

Ironically, thousands, perhaps millions, of the American militia, I among them, have “affordable” self-defense rifles thanks to Kalashnikov.
