“The victim did not resist and complied with all demands, police said, but the gunman still opened fire.”
Bu-bu-but that’s not supposed to happen! They only hurt you if you pull a gun on them – the smart people told me so! /sarc

I wonder if we will be spared the usual “he was a good boy” tripe since he was wasn’t shot by the victim.

I wasn’t chambered in SacredCow. It was chambered in YourCaliberChoiceSucks.
Maybe they shouldn’t rob a guy whose face can deflect bullets.

That was either a magical bullet or the victim was an android like Terminator.

The linked article does not report on the most important fact about the robbery victim shot with a .25ACP: did he get mad, or is that just another caliber-specific myth?

“The victim did not resist and complied with all demands, police said, but the gunman still opened fire. ”
The other lesson there – apart from what Oyster already said – is that a gun doesn’t do you any good if you don’t use it when they’re trying to rob you.
On the other hand, since the victim was 16, he’d be in a lot of trouble with the law for shooting even in self defense with a handgun that was undeniably in his personal possession and not an adult relative’s.
(This is assuming that said victim wasn’t also a Bad Actor who just happened to be predated by a stronger or more aggressive set of Bad Actors; not enough information to say.)

Years ago I handled a case where one dude shot another in the face with a .25. The bullet deflected off of his cheekbone and went through his nose, left to right across your radio dial. Shooter got 10 years in prison, as I didn’t appreciate him opening fire outside of the Quick Chick at dinner time.

There’s an old story about a Houston dockworker who got into a drunken argument at a bar & was shot 3 times in the forehead with a .25ACP. For long after, he cadged free drinks by showing off the divots in his head.
