Lets see. In the south it is pretty easy to find moderately dressed girls who like to shoot. Of course they lack how should I put this. Good looks. If I want to see an averagish with makeup looking woman shooting the eyes out of targets I can join my local long range shooting club.
Complaining about models that don’t really exist in the shooting world is like complaining that drinking a beer does not start and instant party where all the hot babes want you. Its asinine.
I think you miss the point about targeting women to partake in the shooting sports. To use your beer example, do you think women are motivated to buy beer based on that commercial?
A few weeks ago I was watching some 4 year college recruiters at a local community college. They had a 20 something hot blonde with makeup and tight shirt in one seat. In the other was scholarly, grandfatherly, looking professor type.
The young people both girls and boys were talking with the hot blonde.
The older students talked to the grandfatherly professor type.
What does that tell you?
1. Young women are attracted to idealized women their own age.(It shows them the patterns they ‘should’ follow.)
2. Young men are attracted to hot blondes in tight fitting clothes.
3. Older women who are more serious were preferred to talk with the fatherly looking gentleman.
4. Older guys talked with the fatherly looking gentlemen so the could get close enough to look at the blondes rack without looking like perverts.
Now lets go to the beer commercial. The idea is not to attract women with the girls. It is to show the girls how they should act with guys who drink this beer. The plan being to get the women to act like the those they idealize.
I don’t know about you but I could enjoy female shooters dressing like Melissa Gilliand. Even if they were not that hot.
I was going to say that people should lighten up and not worry about stuff like this (I always say that when the topic involves scantily clad women), but then I saw the pictures. The accomplished shooter is much more attractive. Why not just take two more pictures of her in that tank top?
So did anyone actually read the article, or look at ANYTHING ELSE on the site to see if that was typical of their content? She posed for a calendar to raise money for AmericanSnipers.org. The magazine wrote an article about her doing that.
Maybe the editor of the magazine, a woman named Niki apparently, thought other women might read that and think “You know, I’d be willing to model for a calendar to raise money to support our troops”. Or maybe she was trying to draw in some male readers, who might see the rest of the content and suggest it to their spouses/girlfriends. But I guess she overestimated the ability of most of you to manage more than some knee-jerk outrage.
This is hardly the same Melisssa Gilliland who’s with her husband in the Feb. 2014 issue off SWAT magazine, shooting an ASW .338LM “Wicked Stick” at long range? She’s not dressed for a pin-up and yank calendar, the SWAT photo-shoot had an entirely a different dimension, and included her husband which must be a disappointment for the MAXIM fan-boyz…
Note to publishers; If you want to run a soft porn magazine, go for it. If on the other hand you want to run a gun magazine, you might want to keep it a gun magazine. I can get porn for free on line anyway, if I want it, so I’m not going to go digging through a gun magazine for it.
Also; women read gun magazines too, and they’re not all whores looking for whore-fashion tips. You may wish to keep that in mind.
And for that matter; even if you view your gun/soft porn magazine as being exclusively for horny men who like guns, not all men are attracted to trashy, whorish-looking women. Appealing to Bill Clinton and that Weiner guy exclusively seems like bad business to me.

I’m outraged.

Isn’t the fifth rule of gun safety to not fire with your cleavage out?
Else you’ll be doing the hot brass dance…
