So, earlier today, there was this mass movie shooting in FL that was all over the news

It left the press spotlight as soon as the shooter was discovered to be a retired police officer. Odd, that.

    Indeed. Go figure.

More like escalating an argument over texting culminating in the suspect killing Chad Oulson and wounding his wife at the Cobb Grove 16 in Wesley Chapel, Florida.

    “Only ones” watching the movie?

  5. Jim Scrummy Says:

I thought “law enforcement”/peace officers were suppose to “stop crime”, not commit crime? Silly me.

It wasn’t just some retired cop, it was a former captain of the Tampa PD. Guess he couldn’t handle the loss of authority any longer http://www.nytimes.com/2014/01/14/us/florida-man-is-shot-to-death-for-texting-during-movie-previews.html

  7. Lyle Says:

A cop or ex cop going apeshit is not “news”, so why talk about it? If a teapartier says something mean to a communist, that’s news.

  8. Blake Says:

one quote i saw was (of course) “why would anyone bring a firearm into a movie theater?” The article also noted that both texting and firearms were forbidden there.

  9. Sigivald Says:

I guess all that training and vetting that cops have, and the special laws that let them carry when other people aren’t allowed to, didn’t magically stop bad judgment or ill will.

(I saw the comment Blake did, too.

Made me want to reply – if I was stupid enough to bother with Times comments – “well, there’s ‘no reason’ for On Duty cops to have a gun, if there’s ‘no reason’ for retired ones or non-cops to have one”.

“The police are the public and the public are the police.”

    Peel was and remains right.)

  10. Matthew Carberry Says:

Careful, this does fit the narrative that only -active- authorized cops should have guns, and then only when on duty. Like England.

  11. mariner Says:

I’d rather not “solve” this problem by restricting cops’ access to firearms. I’d rather see most citizens’ able to carry the same firearms into the same places as any police officer.

(Of course, I’d also like to see cops held strictly liable for their misconduct.)

  12. DC Handgun Info Says:

This will be discussed at length in unarmed and armed security training classes, like the two I just completed. Totally 100% avoidable, Captain (Ret., and Convict).

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
