Just proves that boys are going to play shoot-em-up no matter what you do. This one took it a bit far for his age, perhaps. But, hey, he lived. And, he had the right idea. Dad must have told him, “The hammer strikes the ammo here, and….”

I know a retired constable who, as a youth, successfully converted a cowboy cap-gun to cap and ball, and shot squirrels. Of course, back in the days of Hopalong and Roy, toys were more substantial.
Lyle’s right, of course. Let them fire a real one now and again, and then practice handling skills on the toys. They have a whole different attitude that way.
