This looks legit to me, they have probable cause. To wit, a gun owner would have to be crazy to live in NJ.

And simply follow the subsequent measures claimed to be merely “common sense” approach to broaden “the list” of folks to be incarcerated, or denied “permission”, if found to be in possession of firearms, or ANY ancillary items,…you know, improperly bitten breakfast pastries and the like.

And imagine if this were proposed before issuance of a permit to buy alcohol or medical marijuana.

It might be semi-acceptable if there were a way to have a blind testing including all LEO, too. It might cut from the herd that NJ state trooper who freaked out because a Florida resident was traveling through New Jersey, and needed backup because the CCW permit holder’s wife didn’t know where the gun was.

Windy, all good, but it was a Maryland cop that lost his shit; the Floridian was returning to Florida from PRNJ.
Add to Pre-Departure Checklist:
“Honey, I can’t carry my handgun in either Maryland or New Jersey. Watch me as I’m locking it in the safe. Now if a cop asks you where my gun is, what are you going to tell him?”

NJ lawmakers cause far more damage than gun owners.
I suggest requiring NJ lawmakers to get periodic mental health evaluations, as well as mandating drug tests.
