Progress
A while back, I had someone who would know tell me that NRA avoided SBR and suppressor issues because, he said, if your average congressmonkey knew that they weren’t illegal they would work to make them illegal. So, I was surprised and glad to see NRA say this: Michigan: House Committee to Hear Bill to Repeal Ban on Short Barreled Rifles and Shotguns on Thursday
Cool.

They are backing the pro-NFA bill in Iowa as well, though they are billing it as a pro-silencer bill it basically just does what other states do and makes federal registration an affirmative defense to prosecution for all NFA stuff.

It’s got all the sportsman organizations here in Michigan a buzz. Unfortunately there’s still the mountain of bureaucracy between a SBR and myself.

I have a good feeling SBRs, SBSs, and suppressors will be removed from the NFA in the next ten years. We’ll certainly see some movement in that direction for sure.

It was just 2011 at the Pittsburgh Annual Meeting (after the CLE presentation on Friday) when I asked the NRA honchos about moving suppressors to Title I. I got girlish screaming and lots of hand waving.
Good to see NRA is starting to find a spine.
