But you don’t need semi-automatic rifles!
Mom uses a semi-auto (hi-point) to repel home invaders. Unfortunately, none of the invaders got a sudden case of dead.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.

Not just any Hipoint.
A rusty Hipoint!
Rule #1 of gunfighting: Bring a gun. She did. Good on her!

Don’t get me wrong, when people decide other people’s property is worth less than their life I’m happy when they get ventilated, but…
I’d bet she’s happy she didn’t kill anyone.
Yes, it was deserved, but most people just aren’t happy taking a life even if totally deserved.

Veeshir:
That, and the perps avoided “Killed by an angry mom with a rusty hi-point” as their epitaph.

That is one brave woman!
For using a Hi-Point, not for fighting off the 3 guys.

Those hipoint carbines, while ugly, are solid, accurate, and available to more people with less of a budget.

Which firearm would you rather have the police confiscate as evidence after a shooting, a Hi-Point carbine or your pre-1964 Winchester bolt action?

As much distain as I have for the Hi-Point pistols, the carbines (especially in .40 caliber — likely due to the higher pressure) are at least reliable.
And that’s the third most important attribute of a gun in a self defense situation (right after “having it” and “having it loaded”).

Like Geodykt says – there’s no practical difference between a Colt .40 carbine and a Hi-Point, as long as they’re both functioning, and accurate enough to hit the target.
Which plainly this one was.
The Hi-Points are also a hell of a lot cheaper than an AR-platform pistol-caliber carbine.

It’s hard to screw up a straight blowback CARBINE with a 16″ barrel, firing a caliber that begins with a “4” — even feedramp design is easier, and the additional velocity helps make up for using ball ammo (and either .40 or .45 out of a 16″ is nothing to sneeze at, even in FMJ).
