Sprung
San Joaquin County to have 300 Sig 226s fixed by Sig. Seems a tiny pin has failed causing the guns to not reload. Not sure what that means, exactly.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.

The only “tiny pin” in a 226 that holds back a spring that would be necessary for the reloading process that I can think of is the pin & spring involved in the magazine catch. Being a SIG armorer, I know that if installed wrong not only will the assembly not work but you’ve got to get the factory involved to fix it.
Since the gun won’t work right in this manner I’m hazarding a guess that the guns were di**ed with after they left the factory – say, someone decided to WECSOG a change from right to left hand mag release or otherwise see “how many parts’re in this here thingy”. Then they screwed up and had to scream that the product was defective.
The sad thing is that if such was the case – curious officer Doofus or distracted armorer Cletus wrecked the guns – then it’s bad publicity on page one for SIG and never any good enough retraction even on page 42 after the fact to make a difference.
For all you “hey, quit picking on the cops” folks in the audience, I am a supervisory LEO with 30 years experience and am my agency’s senior armorer. And we carry SIGs, quite happily. And I have no interest in the company, but I do trust the product.

It could also be a case of poor quality control at the factory. There have been some issues with Sig quality in the last few years. My agency had some serious issues with our new Sigs in 2010. It was all about the springs.

The reported “tiny pin” could be any pin as it doesn’t look to be what an armorer stated but a reporter’s take on what an armorer (might have) said. Sig has used some poor/out of spec pins in P226s and P229s sold to LE agencies recently.
