Democrats want CDC to resume pushing gun control
A new bill to remove the prohibition of CDC activism as science. I’d be sympathetic to the CDC if it was serious about actual study but it is, instead, serious about agenda.

I’d be all for it if it was a study of how to treat gunshot wounds instead of a study on how to infringe on civil rights.

It begs the question, what would it take to satisfy doubts about the CDC’s objectivity?
Separately, think about the information necessary to do a rigorous study on guns and crime. How are you going to get accurate and complete info on defensive gun uses that never get reported? Or on who has guns, what kind and how many? Are law-abiding people going to be willing to tell a government researcher this info? What about criminals? Epidemiologically, you’d also need to know a lot of info about people’s lives, like where they live, where they commute to and how, what activities they engage in and with whom, their mental health… You’d need lots of info that is either extremely difficult to get or that many people won’t be willing to divulge. Because of this, I have my doubts about the accuracy and thoroughness –- and hence the value — of even an objective study.
