More on water storage
A post on how to do it. I try to keep many cases on hand and I have two 100 gallon water heaters in a pinch.

The cheap store brand water is less than a buck a gallon in the bigger sizes. To me it’s sure not worth the trouble of washing out coke bottles to store water in especially when it might or more not be fouled by the time the need arises. Sealed water isn’t good forever but close to it…

Just be aware that the plastic that water bottles are made of is permeable – depending on the relative humidity, the water will slowly evaporate out through the plastic, leaving you shriveled bottles. This also means that the smaller bottles lose water faster because they’re thinner. Here in Arizona, the shrinkage is noticable after about 6 months, while on our boat in the ocean, it takes several years to show up.
Soda bottles (which are much thicker because of the pressure) should last a looong time.

Good too know but here in al the humidity is so high I’d bet the loss rate is minimal
