Corruption
Tennessee comes in as the third most corrupt state. I’m guessing because a lot of Memphis politicians have gone to jail.

Wouldn’t a LACK of corrupt politicians going to jail signal MORE corruption?

Yeah, if you’re prosecuting the corrupt officials, you’re way, way ahead of New York, Massachusetts and Illinois, to name three off the top of my head.

The study gives credit to actually jailing corrupt politicians in its model. This is why people who say “BUT BUT BUT WHAT ABOUT NEW JERSEY???” have never seen the special wing at the prison in Rahway for politicians. It’s full. And the mob, after Christie stopped protected them when he left the DAs office, is all in jail. My house was a tax sale off the back of a life-in-prison Decavalcante soldier’s settlement of fines. In TN, being corrupt is upward mobility. See Ron Ramsey.
