Creating terrorism
I’ve mentioned before about how all the times the feds bust up some alleged terror ring, they’re usually the ones that started it. Now it’s nice to put a number to it: ‘All of the high-profile domestic terrorism plots of the last decade, with four exceptions, were actually FBI sting operations’

And yet people still argued with me that we’re stopping terrorism by providing Jihadwannabe Johnnie with Play-Doh and a walkie talkie.

The 60s retread burnouts who dabbled in “direct action” long ago realized that the guy who claimed that he could get explosives was always the pig informant.

One of the reasons this may be so is that surveillance is so tight, that (as the security services regularly pride themselves) no plot can succeed. But if no plot ever came to the surface, then no politician would spend that much money on the terrorist-busters. Which would lead to terrorism that succeeds. Which then would lead to politicians scrambling to bolster security. To avoid these ups and downs … maybe the services provide a little “smoothing of the curve”.
