But no one else can. Well, except wealthy politicans.

He probably thinks “Hamas” is Arabic for “National Rifle Association.”
It is not ideologically inconsistent for him to argue that the state has a right to use force.

He flew El Al and I believe he’s Jewish. At the risk of sounding like a bigot here, mess with 1, you’ve messed with all of them. The 30s and 40s show them the importance of standing together to face a threat.
For once, I’m proud to call him an American.

He believes you have the right to defend yourself by calling 911 too.

That is true, this is a man that was quite the braggart about the size and power of the NYPD.
He even likened it to an army. So he’s got no problem with the state defending citizens.
He just thinks that citizens shouldn’t directly protect themselves. If they want more protection, why they can just hire some proxies… or get a goverment job and get some state employed protection.

Israel can defend itself, but individual Americans can’t?
What a jackass.

Israel is a militarized, police state, definitely socialist, with the only people allowed (even obligated) to go armed being the unquestioned supporters of the state. Bloomberg would be perfectly fine with that.

nk: Wrong. Dead wrong.
Israel is not a police state; Israeli freedom of the press makes American journalism look tame indeed. A great many Israeli civilians go armed. Israel had socialist roots, yes, but has moved beyond them (in no small part due to the work behind the scenes of a young politician named Netanyahu, who is now Israel’s Prime Minister).
You have so many facts wrong about Israel, I would suggest that a visit there is overdue for you. All I ask is that you visit with your eyes open, and be prepared to confront some preconceived notions. You’ll be pleasantly surprised… and you’ll have a great time.
(I’m told that Israeli weapons training is a growing tourist attraction. Would you like to try shooting a Tavor on full auto?)
As for Bloomberg — well, I’m happy to report that he finally got something right. Good for him.

Daniel,
Israel is may-issue, if you have demonstrated need, military service history, medical clearance, and weapon-specific education.

More acceptance of public carry by approved persons, but far worse gun laws in general.

Daniel, I did not say that Israel has a choice than to be other than what it is. It is under siege and under constant threat of annihilation.
And you are right about dissent in Israel. There are 13 political parties in the Knesset and Netanyahu’s only has 20/120 seats. Israelis are free to criticize the grosse machers, and they do. It’s in America that we have to toe the party line when it comes to Israel no matter who’s in charge there or what he does.
