A civil rights victory
With this decision in Palmer, the nation’s last explicit ban of the right to bear arms has bitten the dust
The ban on gun carry in DC is gone. Good.
Also, you remember America Fuck Yeah? I want a version that says Alan Gura, Fuck Yeah.

Must wait until DC has a structure for carry license without defining a timeframe. They can drag their feet forever and still not deliver a ccl.

DC used to have ccw. It was called ccw for rich people with political power and no one else. I want to say there were a baker’s dozen of permits. That was eventually shut down. DC city council doesnt like being told what to do…or guns…they will find a way to muck up the system as it moves on to appeals and scotus. Just look at the marijuana decriminalization that just passed; it left a bad taste in the mouth of advocates and law enforcement by creating terrible laws that help no one. Pray for another federal takeover like in the 90S.

As of this moment DC is non permit carry. That is until Dc enacts carry permit system. If they delay then it is defacto non permit carry.

“Furthermore, this injunction prohibits the District from completely banning the carrying of handguns in public for self-defense by otherwise qualified non-residents based solely on the fact that they are not residents of the District.”
Does this sentence have any national reciprocity implications?

The quote:
“With this decision in Palmer, the nation’s last
explicit ban of the right to bear arms has bitten
the dust”
Not the last, the city & county of Denver explicitly prohibits open carry – no if, and or buts. There is CCW, but not if one enjoys the now legal bud in the state.

I’ll buy one of those.

Guys, basically this means that DC is 100% Constitutional Carry (open or concealed) with one critical exceptions. . .
While carry is utterly unregulated until DC gets a permiting scheme in place that asatisfies the courts, their *possession* scheme is only affected in that they can no longer refuse registration applications from non-residents and they can no longer reject registration applications for “carry outside the home”.
So you *can* carry in DC right now, even if you don;t live there. But only if you have a gun registered in DC.

Geo,
Not according to the official memo from DC Chief Lanier and their AG. Both DC Metro and the Park Police will not arrest non-residents for carry if a background check comes up clean. registration rules do not pply at this point.

Just thought of something.
Guru already established that Permanent Resident Aliens have same right to arms and carry as Citizens.
Federal law and most state laws allow handgun possession at 18.
DC says if person is non-prohibited carry by non-DC residents is legal.
Unless DC has a pistol possession age older than 18(?), Con Carry in DC applies to every voting age adult, citizen or not, in the country.
That’s what we are aiming at, long term, step by step.
