The IRS and guns
According to a government audit, IRS Agents ‘Accidentally’ Discharged Guns 11 Times between 2009 and 2011. Some of those weapons discharges resulted in property damage or personal injury, claimed the report. In fact, agents accidentally fired their guns more times than they did intentionally, said the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration.

Why is the IRS intentionally firing their weapons?

rick:
The IRS Criminal Investigation Division (formerly the Intelligence Division; “Intelligence” was a cool word when the division was formed in the 20s) has a number of Criminal Investigator/Special Agents who are in the same job classification as FBI, DEA, USSS and most other gun-carrying Federal agents. I don’t know how many IRS-CID Special Agents there are; I suppose somewhere around 1,000. They mainly work mob cases and have put mobsters and organized criminals away since they first got Frank Nitti and Al Capone during Prohibition. I have to say, though, having worked with and trained some, they tend to be accountants first and shooters second.

Yes, the IRS has armed agents, and—good news!—they are just as competent with firearms as Lois Lerner is with computer records.
