Gun Porn
In The City (My The City), there’s a ban on fireworks. However, on holidays where fireworks are popular, the local police tend to look the other way unless they’re getting complaints. So, basically, if you have neighbors that are assholes, you’re probably not going to set off a lot of exploding things. And I have an asshole neighbor.
The police showed up and the officer looks at me and she says: Well, I think your neighbors are unpatriotic assholes but I’m giving you 15 minutes to shut down.
I thanked her and said it wouldn’t be a problem.
Gun rights activists struggle:
Luis Merino may be the loneliest gun rights activist in North America.
Like a kid in a pastry shop, he gazes longingly into the display cases of 9mm handguns and sleek semiautomatic rifles here at the Directorate of Arms and Munitions Sales, the only gun store in this entire country. Run by the Mexican military, it restricts purchases of such models to police departments.
“The ones we can buy are over there,” Merino said, pointing across the store to the deer rifles and small handguns, no larger than a .380 caliber.
Yet Merino has gotten little traction trying to marshal a campaign for looser gun laws through his Facebook group, Mexico Armado (Mexico Armed).
Actually, the first question should be whether or not something should be regulated. After all, all of you “reasonable people” have created a huge, unreasonable, bureaucratic burden on most people.
Thoughts on what to keep for a Ruger 10/22. And I should probably get a couple of AR-15 spare parts kits.
Gun-rights advocates have delivered a one-two punch to the city of Chicago.
The first blow came on Jan. 6 when a federal judge ruled the city’s longtime ban on gun stores was unconstitutional.
On Thursday, the second blow landed when the judge approved $940,000 in legal fees that the city must pay to the attorneys who challenged the ban. Charles J. Cooper, one of those plaintiffs’ attorneys, charged $975 an hour for his work.
The regulations there come with a proposal for a nearly $4,000 fee to run a gun shop.
Meanwhile, one night, 11 people were shot and 5 died.
Legal Insurrection: Judge Debra Nelson, who presided at murder trial, rules Zimmerman’s victim status alone is sufficient to subject him to deliberate libel
I’m surprised that, in this second case, Zimmerman had the misfortune of having the same terrible judge he had the first go around. I hope an appeal is forthcoming.
It seems they always are. And 9mm sucks*.
But, the latest:
The U.S. Army is moving forward to replace the Cold War-era M9 9mm pistol with a more powerful handgun that also meets the needs of the other services.
As the lead agent for small arms, the Army will hold an industry day July 29 to talk to gun makers about the joint, Modular Handgun System or MHS.
The MHS would replace the Army’s inventory of more than 200,000 outdated M9 pistols and several thousand M11 9mm pistols with one that has greater accuracy, lethality, reliability and durability, according to Daryl Easlick, a project officer with the Army’s Maneuver Center of Excellence at Fort Benning, Georgia.
Last time they did this, a few companies made guns to comply with the requirements (i.e., the G21SF, IIRC). They’re wanting a new round and are looking at .40, .357sig, and 45acp. Trouble is, the army will continue having performance issues with their handguns until they change the ammo from ball to not ball.
* well, the army’s does.
It’s essentially a placating non-event:
Later yesterday afternoon, a spokesperson for Target clarified the statement put out by Mulligan saying, “It is not a ban,” she said. “There is no prohibition.” In other words, nothing changes.
And, also, not seen a lot of calls for a boycott on them either.
So, Gov. Chris Christie did veto the magazine restriction that I was wondering about. He wants to run for president. I’m sure he’ll run out and buy an NRA life membership too.
I had a prescription scheduled for pick up there today and I kinda needed it now, so I went in despite their silly statement on firearms carry. There was no “no guns” nor anti-gun signage on the entrance. Anyway, nothing happened, probably because I didn’t have an AK strapped across my chest.
Arm yourself against drug cartels, that’ll get you arrested:
Mexican authorities detained one of the most well-known leaders of vigilante groups that have been battling drug gangs in the western Mexican state of Michoacan, a federal official said on Friday.
Jose Mireles, a medical doctor who became one of the most visible leaders of vigilante groups that sprung up last year, was arrested for carrying illegal guns, Alfredo Castillo, the federal government commissioner in the state, told Milenio TV.
Mireles was detained on Friday in the port city of Lazaro Cardenas with 82 other people who also were allegedly carrying illegal firearms and who planned to travel to the state capital of Morelia, Castillo said.
So much for the government there deciding that the vigilantes there were good and giving them a pass.
Tam with a tale of two rifles.
I think back to all the handguns I’ve carried and the way I carried them and I would be embarrassed to talk about those now. Same with my rifles that used to have all that shit all over them.
Illinois AG is fighting having to reimburse Alan Gura for his tips when he traveled there to stop her violation of constitutional rights.
Wishing death on a young hunter. I mean, they mostly want other things to kill her but still.
This came across the news feed:
Today, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (R) vetoed A.2006/S.993, sponsored by Assembly Majority Leader Louis Greenwald (D-6) and Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg (D-37). This legislation sought to arbitrarily lower New Jersey’s magazine restriction from fifteen rounds to ten. New Jersey is one of only a handful of states that already has a restriction on the number of rounds permitted.
The link, however, has since disappeared. I thought maybe Christie was changing is gun banning ways. Maybe not.
Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
